Rambling thoughts

It just dawned to me that in three month's time we will be on our way to Finland again. This time to spend Christmas there. It is sometimes scary how quick the time flies. The past 20 years went in a blink, not to mention the past ten years.

I still remember so clearly when I packed my belongings and moved from Kotka to Turku, that was in 1996, 12 years ago. I remember how horrible it felt to leave my hometown, including my family and friends. In 1999 I packed my stuff again and moved to Scotland and I have never regretted that decision. Ironically that move was much easier than the previous one, though this time I moved to another country. Suppose I was already used to not seeing my family and friends on a regular basis. You get used to things and modern technology helps of course.

After Scotland I made couple of more pit stops (London and Helsinki) before I ended up in the Netherlands. It feels like yesterday, though I have been here almost four years already. Now I am not planning to pack my belongings and move for the next 20 years or so. Our retirement plan is to move to Finland, but until then we are staying put.

I guess my approaching 40th birthday is to blame for this trip down the memory lane...

On siinä asioita mitä myöhemmälläö iällä muistelee useasti..

@ Krisse: Totta puhut menneiden muistelemisen suhteen.

Moving away from your family is never easy. I am a mover. I love moving to new places and starting over. It's so exciting!!! I can't wait to move away from Charlotte - I feel like I've been here too long already! My next stop will be somewhere on the coast. Don't know where just yet - hurricane season always discourages me. But the next move, I plan on staying for a while - for the girls. Hubby has never moved away from his mother (only child) so he's dragging his feet and is scared to death. But I think he will really love it and it will be a great boost for his morale to make a way for his family - on his own.

There are my rambling thoughts for the day!

What is planned for your big birthday?

Pientä haikeutta aistittavissa blogeissa. Kaunis kukkakori.

When is your birthday again? If I remember well you had a post about it last year. How are you and your friend now? Your humour in the post below made me laugh; it´s good to keep your spirit awake if the body won´t anymore! :D
I´m turning 41 in december, but I think life is good and it will become even better. So I wish you HOPE!!
Sunny greetings and a good day.

Thanks for stepping by! Olivia is better now, she went to school on Monday and she was very happy to see her friends again. She really loves school!
When is your birthday ? I would like to know ;-)

Thank you all for your comments :-)

@Sirkka: Totta puhut, ikä on vain numeroita. Olen siis henkisesti HUOMATTAVASTI nuorempi kuin virallinen ikäni kertoo (en nyt kuitenkaan ihan 3-vuotiaan tasolla). Ja voidepurkkiarsenaalin avulla kamppailen niitä näkyvämpiä merkkejä vastaan ;-)

@Amanda: Especially moving away from Finland in 1999 did good to me in so many ways. Living, working and taking care of everything by myself in another country, and without any problems, made me feel so much stronger and braver. It made me feel like I can do anything as long as I put my mind to it. You can always TRY at least. You can always go back if it does not work out.

@M: our patient is doing much better now, thanks for asking. He is almost back to normal and even went shopping today :-)

To all of you who asked. My birthday is on November (and I am a typical Scorpio) so there is still plenty of time for me to do these memory lane trips ;-) I remember the same thing happening when I was approaching my 30th birthday. No big plans, yet. I have never celebrated my birthday BIG time, but perhaps this time I will break the pattern. We will see :-)

Hello Katja, I reckon the best place to have been this summer was the far north west of scotland, I don't think the sun has stopped shining.
It's amazing how the years pass, slowly at first, summers last for ever, school terms even longer..then we grow up and puff.....gone!! one year after the other, I don't mind getting older..it's the running out of time to do everything I want to do....now that does bother me. It sounds like you are making the very most of yours, and that is lovely, it's wonderful to hear of your travels, and it will be super for you to return to Finland for christmas, ther is no place like home is there.
Hugs Lynn xx
